Eco Schools

What is “Eco-Schools”?

Eco-Schools is the largest sustainable schools programme in the world with 19.5 million children, young people and educators engaged worldwide in 67 different countries.
Eco-Schools is operated internationally by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and delivered by Keep Scotland Beautiful in Scotland.

Eco-Schools has common structural features across all operating countries. The Seven Elements makes up the core of all Eco-Schools programmes across the world.

Completing a Green Flag Application is recognised by the Green Flag Award – a visible indication of your school’s commitment to Learning for Sustainability and an internationally recognised accreditation for excellence in sustainable education.

Islay High Eco Group

The eco group in IHS has just started on its journey towards achieving a green flag.  We have 10 regular members and another 8 who are supportive of the group and will help out when they can but cannot attend all of the weekly meetings. We have conducted an Environmental Review which has identified these three areas as needing improvement or further development:

  • Biodiversity
  • Litter and Waste
  • Climate Action

We will now begin to work on an Action Plan to address these concerns.
