The Library has two main roles, to promote reading for pleasure and to support teachers and students with research-based learning across the curriculum.

Students are welcome to make use of the Library during opening hours and are free to borrow from the collections.  The Librarian asks only that all visitors adhere to the rules in place, which are published throughout the Library.

Library Catalogue

The Library has a varied collection of fiction titles, with an estimated 1,700 books, containing everything from old-school Enid Blyton and Roald Dahl to Suzanne Collin's Hunger Games and Barry Hutchison's Invisible Fiends.  The non-fiction collection has an estimated 1,200 books, with a wide variety of reference materials and general education books.  The Library also receives the school subscription to the local newspaper, the Ileach, and has an incomplete archive of past editions dating back to the 1970s.

The online catalogue is currently under construction, however new catalogue records are being created every day, so students will soon be able to peruse all titles in the non-fiction section at the click of a button.  Instruction on how to best use the catalogue to follow.

Students are also encouraged to make use of the Public Library service.  From their website students can search the catalogue, reserve a title, and request a book or journal article they don't have in stock.  However, students must be a member of the Argyll and Bute Library Service to enjoy the books and other resources available, so if you don't already have a library card, click here to proceed to the registration form.  Please note, to join online students must be 16 or over, those under the age of 16 must have a signature from their parent or guardian.

Students can also use the Islay Mobile Library, see below for:

In addition, the National Library of Scotland runs an Ask a Librarian service, simply fill out the form and they will respond within 10 working days.
