Social Subjects

Welcome

Welcome to the Social Subjects department of Islay High School. Within the department young people develop their understanding of the world by learning about other people and their values, in different times, places and circumstances; they also develop their understanding of their environment and of how it has been shaped.
We focus on preparing students for an ever changing world by studying the historical, social, geographic, economic and political changes that have shaped Scotland. There is a particular focus on how to make sense of changes in society, of conflicts and of environmental issues. With this understanding, young people will be able to become confident citizens able to navigate a changing world.
